It’s almost the finale of summer, not that I’m too sad about it , for it has been ridiculously hot.I’ll always be a winter human anytime anywhere. Plums are what I see as the reminiscent of what’s left of summer. I bought the juiciest and loveliest plums at the Dubai fruit and vegetable market this weekend. Let’s just say I bought them mainly because they looked undeniably wonderful and I had no idea what to do with them. So I literally had a crate of plums (I’m excessive like that) waiting for me to make use of them.
The Chinese believe plums signify good fortune. I can’t help you confirm that but plums are what I consider as superfood. Plums are known to be exceptionally good for women, as they are known to kill aggressive breast cancer cells without affecting the surrounding cells, be full of antioxidants which is great for your skin and increase the level of calcium & vitamin D in the body. It also increases the memory power , we all could definitely use some of that … old at 22 ! Wait, Prunes are dried plums right? Because my mom says the exact same things about prunes as well. In fact, at my home the saying goes as two prunes a day keeps any lady problem away. I swear I did not make that up just now for the sake of the blog post (avoids eye contact).
Anyway, for this recipe you can use fresh plums of any variety that you may like. Initially I thought of making an upside down style cake but once I cut up the plums, they looked so appealing that I wanted them on the top. Plus with the plum pieces on the top, you will have the caramelized pieces on different levels of the cake as it moves during the baking process and not just remain on the top layer.
P.S OMG , I made such a blunder by typing peach instead of plum for the recipe box title. Well , don’t hold me for it , they do look uncannily similar!
